Causes of Hair Loss
Our hair is probably one of the most-noticed elements on our head. When a person starts to bald, it will affect his/her outward appearance. This will usually lead to low self-esteem of the person, and in some cases, depression. Hair loss can actually be stopped, and in most cases, reversed. Here are a number of common causes of hair loss.
Male pattern baldness. It affects both men and women (female pattern baldness). Those who have this condition usually inherited the problem from their parents. Those suffering from male-pattern baldness will start losing hair at an early age. What you get is usually a receding hairline, typically in the shape of an ‘M’.
Telogen effluvium. This is a hair loss condition that is related to stress. Unnecessary stress due to work, sleepless nights, illness, pregnancy, death of a family member, financial difficulties, relationship problems, etc, can also affect our hair growth cycle. This problem typically goes away with the stress. It’s time to learn how to relax!
Using hair treatments. Exposing your hair to harsh chemicals such as straighteners, hair-styling products, dyes and bleaches can also damage your hair follicles. Hair becomes brittle and breaks off effortlessly. Stop these treatments as soon as you can.
Hair loss can also occur if you are on medication. Some medications such as chemotherapy drugs for cancer can lead to baldness. Others include birth control pills, medicine for gout and blood thinners (also called anti-coagulants).
Hair styling. This is a condition called traction alopecia. It is due to extreme pulling, or traction, on the hair.
This by and large affects people who plait or tie their hair. It can damage your hair follicles because your hair scalp is suffering from undue stress due to the ‘pulling effect’.
Poor eating habits. People who go on rapid weight loss programs might also suffer from hair loss. Poor nourishment and insufficient protein-intake can cause you to lose more hair than you should. Learn to eat proper meals, and cut down on fats and carbos.
The key to getting your hair back is to always be consistent and you will eventually see results very soon! Don’t ever give up!
